The Lexington Junior City Championship is the premier youth event on the Play Golf Lex schedule. In 2022, the Kentucky PGA Junior Tour joined the administrative efforts with this tournament to elevate its standing among the top junior golf tournaments in Kentucky. The tournament consists of two days of stroke play and is contested at the City of Lexington's golf courses.
Before 2022, the Kentucky PGA Junior Tour’s Lexington Junior Championship and Play Golf Lex’s Junior City Championship had been independently run during different times of the golf season. Now, they are conjoined into one event, combining each event’s prestige while adding ease to the competitive schedules of the players and their families.
The winners from all divisions earn points that count toward the Kentucky PGA Junior Tour’s Player of the Year standings. Additionally, the overall boys champion receives an exemption into the Play Golf Lex Men’s City Championship while the overall girls champion gets a spot in the Play Golf Lex Women’s City Championship.
