BARDSTOWN, KY (June 25, 2021) - It was another beautiful day at Bardstown Country Club for the final round of the Kentucky Girls Junior Amateur. Despite some windy conditions, folks on hand were treated to some exceptional golf played by some of the top junior girls in the state, plus nine-hole and six-hole boys. 

Richmond’s Claira Beth Ramsey was on cruise control all tournament and is the 2021 Kentucky Girls Junior Amateur champion. After leading the first round by one shot, she was tough as nails on Friday during a final round 74 (+2). She made three birdies in the round and never seemed to lose control of the tournament. She maintained a lead throughout the entirety of the day and won wire-to-wire. On the 18th hole, Ramsey pierced the fairway with a beautiful drive and gave herself a short iron into the finishing par-five. She striped her approach right at the flagstick and two-putted for a closing birdie. Her two day total of 146 (+2) is two shots better than runner-up Casey Powell. Powell birdied her last hole to post 71 (-1) for a two-day total of 148 (+4), which was the only under-par round in her division for the tournament. Bardstown native Madison Borders was next in solo third after a final round of 76 (+4) for a two-day total of 149 (+5). Cathryn Brown, Elizabeth Eberle and Macie Brown all finished in a tie for fourth place after two-day totals of 150 (+6).

This is Ramsey’s first overall major championship on Tour. She nearly got her first major earlier in the month at the Kentucky Girls Junior PGA Championship, but came up just shy of Trinity Beth on that occasion. During these two days, however, Ramsey was in complete control and earned herself a deserving honor by capturing this trophy. With her play this month alone, she has made it clear how strong of a player she is.

Alexa Salamah won the Girls 14 & Under Division after back-to-back 81s for a two day total of 162 (+18). Following her in second place was Anna Simpson while Grace Wang snagged third place.

Conner Ford of the Boys 11-12 Division wasn’t in the kitchen today, but he was absolutely cooking on the golf course. Ford made birdie on three of his first four holes en route to a final round of 32 (-4) and a two-day total of 67 (-5). Ford’s tournament consisted of six birdies and just one bogey. Finishing seven shots behind in solo second was Griffin Jackson who posted back-to-back 37s. 

CeCelia Ray took the Girls 10-12 title after two great rounds of 39 for a two-day total of 78 (+6). Ray made one birdie in each round. Following her in second place was Caroline Lankford with rounds of 41-45 (+14).

In the Boys 10 & Under Division, Adrian Bewley put together another great round with a 37 (+1). He finished even par for the tournament and won by two shots over Knox Taylor who finished at 74 (+2).

In the Boys 8 & Under Division, Matthew White had control from the start as he shot an even-par 25 for a two day total of 49 (-1). He made one birdie and one bogey today. In second place was Max DeHaven who fired a 28 (+3) today for a two-day total of 52 (+6). 

Emlie Miller held her first round lead and won the Girls 9 & Under Division by five shots after shooting 28 (+3) today. Next in second was her sister, Kylie, who shot a 29 (+4) today. They both managed to drop in three pars for the day.

NOTES AND STATS

• The par-four 15th was the hardest hole on the course, as it played to a stroke-to-par average of +0.90.
• The par-five 18th was once again the easiest hole and the only hole where players averaged below par. It played -0.09.
• The average score in the Girls 15-18 Division was 81.68.
• The front nine played slightly easier for all players in the field in terms of scoring average. The front nine played to an average score of 40.77 whereas the back played to an average of 41.45.

Next up for the Kentucky PGA Junior Tour is a Series Tournament at Bowling Green Country Club on Monday, June 28. The other Kentucky Junior Amateur, housing players in the Boys 15-18 and Boys 14 & Under Divisions, will take place at Nevel Meade Golf Club on July 6-7.
