Jacob Settles Wins in Playoff for the 2023 Kentucky Boys Junior PGA Championship
RICHMOND, KY– A heat wave struck Gibson Bay Golf Course on Tuesday and Wednesday, but not in the weather sense. Many players were on fire, including our two champions, Jacob Settles and Luc Kelty. Settles is joined by Sam Guest in qualifying for the 2023 Junior PGA Junior Championship at Hot Springs Country Club in Hot Springs, Arkansas August 1-4.
It all came down to the end on Thursday in the final round when Louisville native, Sam Guest birdied the final hole to get to -4 for the tournament, and -2 (70) on the day. Winchester’s Jacob Settles birdied the 17th hole to get him to -2 for the day and -4 in the tournament as well.
The pair had to battle for the title in a playoff which started on the par 4, 10th hole. Both hit amazing shots into the 10th green. Guest played first knocking it to 12 feet and Settles followed him up hitting it to just inside 5 feet. Guest barely missed his putt, while Settles sank his putt to walk away with the victory.
On Hole #6, Walker Sigg had his first ever hole in one from the black tees which measured 186 yards. The ball hit just shy of a foot from behind the hole and backed up to put the 1 on the scorecard.
Our other champion of the day is Luc Kelty. Kelty fired a 69 (-3) on Thursday’s round carding five birdies on the card to finish the tournament at -1 allowing him to move past the round 1 leader, Colton Woosley who shot -1 (71) in the first round. Kelty has started this year strong, this is his second major win on the PGA Junior Tour after winning the Junior Fall Cities event a few weeks ago.
