Macie Brown & Jay Nimmo Receive Golf House Kentucky Junior Player of the Year Honors
LOUISVILLE, KY (November 5, 2020) – Golf House Kentucky and its respective organizations are proud to announce Macie Brown and Jay Nimmo as the 2020 recipients of the Golf House Kentucky Junior Player of the Year honors. These awards identify the top junior golfers in Kentucky for the season based off competition in local tournaments at all levels along with regional or national golf championships. By virtue of their outstanding play, Brown and Nimmo are bestowed with the highest honor a junior golfer in Kentucky can receive for a season’s play.
Two key victories spurred Brown to this honor. The first of which came in the opening days of July at the University Club at Arlington where Brown won the Kentucky Girls Junior PGA Championship, her first major title on the Kentucky PGA Junior Tour. It was a masterful performance from Brown which led to a five-stroke victory after rounds of 73 (+1) and 72 (E). In September, Brown won the individual contest of the KGCA All-State Championship at University Club of Kentucky. Brown came from two back beginning the final round to score a one-shot victory, which would end up being the catalyst to solidify her place on the final points list.
“I want to thank the team at Golf House Kentucky for all they do to make junior golf possible,” Brown stated. “It was great to see all the hard work I have done this year pay off. Working on course management and keeping my scores consistent is what really helped me this year and I plan to keep working on that going into next year.”
As for Nimmo, his 2020 season will be best remembered for capturing the individual contest of the KHSAA State Championship at Bowling Green Country Club for the second straight year. It took a sudden-death playoff against Rylan Wotherspoon to get the job done after each player finished the tournament at 141 (-3), but it ended up being a storybook ending for Nimmo’s high school golf career after securing the win on the first extra hole. Just a little more than a week later, Nimmo won the Lou Perry Tour Championship at University Club of Kentucky to lock up a victory in the Kentucky PGA Junior Tour’s final event of 2020 and clinch the top spot in the standings. By doing so, Nimmo is the latest Kentuckian to earn an exemption into the 2021 Barbasol Junior Championship. That means Nimmo will tee it up at Keene Trace Golf Club next summer against a star-studded field of junior golfers from near and afar with that tournament’s winner earning a spot in the PGA Tour’s Barbasol Championship.
“I want to thank the Golf House Kentucky team for everything they have done to make an abnormal year seem as normal as possible,” Nimmo said. “They did an unbelievable job in creating a safe environment for us to play. Obviously, this year was a great year for me. I played extremely well in the summer which propelled me to a good high school season. This culminated with a memorable win at the KHSAA State Championship. My future plans are to attend Mississippi State University for the next 4 years to study Finance as well as play golf for the Bulldogs. In the near future, I plan on playing a full winter schedule as well as a strong summer schedule next year, which will hopefully include the US Junior Amateur and the Junior PGA Championship.”
The Kentucky Golf Association, Kentucky PGA Section and Kentucky PGA Junior Tour congratulate Brown and Nimmo on these tremendous honors. The family of golf organizations looks forward to supporting and watching each player continue their successful golfing careers.
