Previewing the Kentucky Girls Junior Amateur
GEORGETOWN, KY (July 15, 2020) – Following a Kentucky Boys Junior Amateur that was rich with drama, the ladies of Kentucky now have the stage for the Kentucky Girls Junior Amateur with each player hoping to author the script of their own dramatic victory. They will have some company as the youngest boys on the Kentucky PGA Junior Tour (Boys 11-12, Boys 10 & Under and Boys 8 & Under) are also set to compete at Cherry Blossom Golf & Country Club in Georgetown.
The competition will begin Thursday morning with those in the Girls Championship Division ready to play 36 holes in their second major championship of the summer. Macie Brown highlights a stellar field as she looks to make it back-to-back majors following her win in the Kentucky Girls Junior PGA Championship earlier this month. Brown starts her first round at 9:40 a.m. EDT and will be a popular pick to win once more. Several other notable names will look to chase her down, including the following:
- Faith Martin (8:10) – Martin finished in a four-way tie for first at last fall’s KGCA All-State Championship and in third place in the KHSAA State Championship. The pride of Rockfield also finished runner-up to Laney Frye in this event last year.
- Olivia Hensley (8:20) – The reigning KHSAA individual champion begins her season on the Kentucky PGA Junior Tour this week in search of another coveted title before she begins her college career at Morehead State this fall.
- Trinity Beth (8:30) – Beth was the closest one to chasing down Brown in Richmond two weeks ago. After her runner-up finish there, she took the top prize this past weekend in Calvert City at the Marshall Strong Classic.
Along with the Girls Championship Division and aforementioned boys divisions, at stake this week are the Girls 16-18, Girls 13-15, Girls 12 & Under, and Girls 9 & Under Divisions. The Kentucky PGA Junior Tour will have full coverage of the tournament on its Facebook, Instagram and Twitter pages. A live video will be available to watch on Facebook when the final group of the Girls Championship Division reaches its final hole during Friday’s final round. If there is a playoff needed to determine a champion, another live video will become available.
