The 2024 Dorothy Waters Scholarship Winners

Golf House Kentucky and the Women’s Advisory Committee of the Kentucky Golf Association are delighted to announce the 2024 winners of the Dorothy Waters Scholarship. Dorothy Waters was a staple in the Kentucky golf world for decades. She was actively involved in various organizations, from the Women’s Fall Cities Golf Association to the Women’s Kentucky State Golf Association, where she served as secretary for 30 years. To honor Dorothy and her lifelong commitment to the game of golf, the Dorothy Waters Scholarship Fund was established to provide financial assistance with tournament expenses to girls under the age of 18 with Handicap Indexes under 25. The goal of the fund is to provide an incentive for junior girl golfers to make golf - specifically tournament golf - their lifelong game.

Sophia Hayes, Elizabeth Dickson, and Candice Tanmas have each been awarded scholarships of $1,000, $750, and $500, respectively. These funds will help cover their tournament expenses, including entry fees and travel costs, allowing them to focus on their game and excel in their golf journey.

Sophia Hayes is from Louisville and plays on the Eastern High School golf team. “I am so incredibly grateful for this award,” she expresses. “I’m very proud of myself for being truthful and virtuous enough to receive it. I look forward to using the award appropriately and effectively.”

Elizabeth Dickson is from Union and plays on the Ryle High School golf team. She feels “honored and grateful that I was chosen for this award because it puts money towards individual tournaments that I can play in over the summer, spring, and fall.” Elizabeth’s parents, Susan Beth and Kent, echo this sentiment, sharing they “are excited to see her excel this year with her goals and advancement in the golf game. She has worked hard to make her goals a reality and with this recognition, it will be a tremendous help.”

Candice Tanmas is from Lexington and plays on the Frederick Douglass High School golf team.

As we celebrate Sophia, Elizabeth, and Candice's achievements, we also look forward to their continued success in golf and in life. We are proud to have them as part of our golf community and wish them the best in all their future endeavors. Congratulations once again!
